Cheap dedicated servers : a success story

A success storyI’m sure you already know that choosing the right dedicated server can be the starting point of a successful internet business. Many people who were smart enough to make the right decision in the right time have built very serious, reputable and profitable businesses.

Last week I bumped into a friend of mine, Paul Winster, who is a successful marketer with a great achievements list on his record. I hadn’t seen him for a while, but I could notice he was extremely happy, just smiling with a sort of foolish face, and I asked why. Turns out to be that he had been providing his professional services to a certain web hosting company, and as a result of his marketing campaign that company actually duplicated its profits within two months, and he just came from getting his juicy paycheck (that’s why he was so happy).

I was in the kidding mood, so I said “Hey; seems like the good old Paulie’s magic still works” and, after laughing and talking for a while we went for a coffee, and then he told me something that surprised me. He said that the real reason why that company had duplicated its number of customers was not marketing, but customer service. Now, that didn’t sound like the Paul Winster I knew! He always takes pride on his achievements; and believe me, he takes every chance he has to remind you how good he is at what he does.

But this wasn’t the case, as he told me this was a web hosting company that had an impressive customer satisfaction history. Turns out to be that the company was entirely focused on providing outstanding customer support to every website owner; leaving all management issues in the hands of the people who provided managed cheap dedicated servers to this company.

Cheap dedicated servers“It’s a beauty of a business model” he stated philosophically. “They just rented cheap dedicated servers with a very trustable company and hired a team of smart techies with outstanding service attitude. That’s it. Of course, they also needed to hire a brilliant, very effective, incredibly talented internet marketer promoting the whole thing” he ended, as humble as usual.

“And who was that? Someone I know?” I asked, just to peck him. He smiled and continued, imperturbably: “Seriously, this has been one of the easiest missions I’ve ever had. A real piece of cake.”

“The only thing I had to do”, he told me, “was to use my skills to get people to try their services for free for some trial time, and since they were so happy with the way the company worked for them, they ended up purchasing their hosting plans”. I must say I wasn’t surprised: I know for sure that when a company focuses on the client it gets more sales; and I also know that companies that resell web hosting with their own managed dedicated servers have more available resources to put into satisfying their customers.

We kept talking for a while about the advantages of a cheap dedicated server and other business-related stuff, but (as usual with Paulie) we ended up discussing trivial, unimportant things and remembering old times. Suddenly, I realized that I had spent almost two hours there, and so I said goodbye and took off to get home.

We exchanged cell phone numbers and promised to call each other when we had the time… and he did. Yesterday, he called me to say “Hey, are you free for a coffee? Of course, this time you pay, right?”. That Paulie will never change.
